چکیده

Background Serine protease inhibitors (SPI) comprising 60-90 amino acid residues, are frequent in plants, and belong to the protein family PR-6. It has recently been shown that a SPI-variant of wheat acts as an important allergen in baker’s asthma but not in persons suffering from wheatinduced food allergy. The aim of this study was to elucidate the role of a recombinant SPI-variant of Hevea brasiliensis for occupational latex allergy.

Rubber tree (Hevea brasiliensis Muell. Arg) is an important economic crop in Thailand. Leaf fall and black stripe diseases caused by the aggressive oomycete pathogen Phytophthora palmivora, cause deleterious damage on rubber tree growth leading to decrease of latex production. To gain insights into the molecular function of H. brasiliensis subtilisin-like serine proteases, the HbSPA, HbSPB, and...

Allergenic Proteins of Hevea brasiliensis Latex Fractions

A spectrum of proteins derived from the rubber tree, Hevea brasiliensis, reacted with IgE in the plasma from persons allergic to natural rubber latex. Latex B-serum, C-serum and rubber particle membrane proteins were all found to contain allergenie proteins. Variations were observed in the reactivity of the latex, IgE positive plasma to the different proteins. Monoclonal antibodies have been de...

FORUM Latex Allergy in the Workplace

While less than 1% of the general population is sensitized to latex, the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration estimates that 8–12% of health-care workers are sensitized. The major source of workplace exposure is powdered natural rubber latex (NRL) gloves. NRL is harvested from Hevea brasiliensis trees and ammoniated to prevent coagulation resulting in the hydrolysis of the latex p...

Microarrays of recombinant Hevea brasiliensis proteins: a novel tool for the component-resolved diagnosis of natural rubber latex allergy.

BACKGROUND Component-resolved diagnosis using microarray technology has recently been introduced in clinical allergology, but its applicability in patients with natural rubber latex (NRL) allergy has not been investigated. OBJECTIVES To evaluate the utility of microarray-based immunoglobulin (Ig) E detection in the diagnostic workup of NRL allergy and to compare this new diagnostic tool with ...
